Birke Baehr Teenage Organic Food Activist
For most 11-year-olds, the most important thing about food is that it is fried, covered in sugar (sparkly cereal, anyone?), or pizza. But not Kentucky-native Birke Baehr.
Birke Baehr was only 8 when he became an organic food activist, and he was 11 when he presented at TEDx. In the three years since his vibrant and engaging TED Talk, he continues to speak out to encourage kids and adults to avoid industrially-farmed food. Birke has also written a book called "Birke On The Farm" about his discovery of food and farming.
"A while back I wanted to be an NFL football player, but now I want to be an organic farmer instead," says Birke.
And for all of you out there who are skeptical about whether or not going organic is really all that big of a deal, Birke puts it as only a kid can: "It seems to me we can either pay the farmer or we can pay the hospital."
